Meet Justin Petty
Meet Justin Petty of The Shop Music City
If you’ve ever driven around Nashville and caught a glimpse of a head-turning car with sleek tints, vibrant vinyl wraps, or a showroom-worthy finish, chances are you’ve seen the work of Justin Petty. He’s not just a business owner—he’s a craftsman, a visionary, and most importantly, a family man. As the founder of The Shop Music City, Justin has carved out a unique space in Nashville’s automotive community, where passion meets precision and every car tells a story.
Justin’s journey into entrepreneurship wasn’t just sparked by a love for cars—it was powered by purpose. Raised with the belief that hard work pays off, he knew early on that he wanted more than just a job—he wanted to build something that would last, something that would support and inspire the people he loves most. With three daughters, a devoted wife, and an unshakeable faith, Justin turned his childhood fascination with car culture into a thriving business that’s as much about people as it is about vehicles.
At The Shop Music City, Justin and his team specialize in high-quality automotive film services—from window tinting to vinyl wraps to paint protection. But what truly sets them apart is their commitment to customer care. Every car that enters the shop isn’t just a project—it’s a relationship. Justin takes the time to know his clients, understand their vision, and deliver a finished product that reflects both style and integrity.
More than just a businessman, Justin is a dreamer in motion. As he gears up to launch his next big venture—Petty’s Spaghetti, a Nashville-based food truck—his story reminds us that success isn’t just measured in profit, but in passion, perseverance, and the lives we touch along the way.
We had the pleasure of catching up with Justin to hear more about how he built his brand, what keeps him motivated, and the legacy he's creating—one project at a time.
Justin, what’s your definition of "entrepreneur"?
A dedicated individual not afraid of taking risks and working for themselves.
What led you to take the leap into entrepreneurship?
I was taught from a young age that you get what you put in. That has always stuck out to me as a crucial element of my work ethic. Owning a business can be one of the hardest and most rewarding things you can do, but providing a nice life for my family is what keeps me going. I have three daughters and a wonderful wife who support me and push me daily—and I refuse to let them down.
What sparked the idea for your business, and what was the defining moment that pushed you to start?
Since I was a kid, I’ve always been into cars. It seemed like the old guys at the car shows always had the best stories to tell, and most of them had shops and worked for themselves. I worked at and owned other businesses that just didn’t click for me—I wanted to be involved in something I love. We’ve all heard the saying “if you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life,” and that sounded pretty good to me. I’ve come to find out that the term isn’t entirely true. So here’s my version: I do what I love, and I work every day!
What problem does your business solve, and what makes your approach unique?
We specialize in custom automotive services, with a focus on automotive films—from window tint to vinyl wraps and paint protection. We make cool cars even cooler, while also offering protection for interiors and paint jobs.
Automotive window film doesn’t just make your windows black—it reduces vehicle temperature, blocks IR and UV rays, and adds protection. Paint protection film guards against rock chips, scratches, and road debris.
What sets us apart is our dedication to customer service. Our clients provide the income that supports my family—and that makes them family to me. I spend time getting to know each of my clients, and the friendships made are a huge bonus. Sometimes, I wish I could get paid just to talk!
What has been your biggest challenge, and how did you navigate through it?
We opened during Covid! Since we’re more of a luxury business than an essential one, the first few years were very challenging. But I stuck with it. I knew if I stayed committed, it could grow into something great—and it has.
Can you share a major win or standout moment in your journey?
There’s not really one big moment, but seeing my daughters’ happiness and achievements are my biggest wins. Knowing that my hard work and The Shop Music City make so much possible is a daily achievement for me.
What advice has stuck with you throughout your entrepreneurial journey?
"Nothing great comes easy." I know these early mornings and late nights will pay off—and that keeps me motivated. It’s my favorite piece of advice. With God and dedication, anything is possible.
How do you stay inspired and keep moving forward?
The constant drive to provide a better life for my family every day. Also, self-love and self-respect.
What’s next for you and your business?
A second business that’s been on my mind for years is finally coming to life in 2025—Petty’s Spaghetti, a new food truck in Nashville! The growth of The Shop this past year is making this dream possible.
How do you balance entrepreneurship with your personal life?
I have an amazing woman by my side, and there’s no way any of this could be a reality without her.
How do you define success, and has that changed since you started?
Love and respect are the ultimate measures of success—and I have that in abundance. If anything, that definition has only become more solid since starting The Shop Music City.
What’s one habit that’s helped you grow as a business owner?
Consistency and standing behind my work. I don’t like to let people down, and that shows in my attention to detail.
How can people support you and your business?
Get those windows tinted! And if you need a friend in the automotive industry, please give me a call.
Any final thoughts?
To my crew and my customers—thank you for believing in me, my family, and my small business!
