Meet Lindsy Read

Today we’re thrilled to introduce you to Lindsy Read, the creative force behind Read Event House. Based in Nashville, Lindsy is known for designing sophisticated, out-of-the-box celebrations that reflect her clients’ personalities and passions. With an eye for art, architecture, and all things beautiful, she brings each vision to life with elegance and intention. In this conversation, Lindsy shares her journey into entrepreneurship, the inspiration behind her unique approach, and what keeps her grounded and thriving in the fast-paced world of event planning.

Hi Lindsy, we’re excited to hear your story today! Let’s start with something foundational—how do you define the word "entrepreneur"? An entrepreneur is a dream-chaser who speaks the language of possibility, chases the horizon with stars in their eyes, and builds bridges where others see cliffs.

Tell us a bit about yourself! What led you to take the leap into entrepreneurship? I have been self-employed for most of my career. I love autonomy and my flexible schedule. Flexibility is essential for self-care and family time.

What sparked the idea for your business, and what was the defining moment that pushed you to start? I was trained under another wedding & event planner and bought her company in 2018. I always felt like I was stepping into her shoes; the company didn’t really feel like it was mine. Rather than change its name, I sold it and launched Read Event House so that I could put my name on something. I love architecture and interior design. Maybe it was all the house shopping and “Parade of Homes” tours I did with my parents throughout childhood. Unique, old, ornate, modern—you name it. I find it so inspiring, and each unique venue drives my event design. That’s where the "house" in Read Event House comes from.

What problem does your business solve, and what makes your approach unique in your industry? Read Event House specializes in designing and planning one-of-a-kind wedding celebrations for non-traditional couples and out-of-the-box businesses. Drawing inspiration from art and architecture, I create elegant and unforgettable events for busy professionals who work hard, value excellence, and cherish their free time. While they are enjoying life to the fullest, I get to create spectacular events that reflect my clients' vibrant personalities.

What has been your biggest challenge as a business owner, and how did you navigate through it? Making the switch from a very established Nashville-based event planning company to launching something new was difficult at first. I was posting on socials constantly and investing a ton in networking with high-level professionals in my field. It was hard work, but it paid off.

Can you share a standout moment or achievement in your journey that felt like a major win? I have had all but one of my events published.

What’s one piece of advice that has stuck with you throughout your entrepreneurial journey, and why has it been so impactful? Treat everyone with kindness. You never know who will make it big one day. I treat each client and vendor as if they are super important because they are. There's no room for a big ego on an event day.

Entrepreneurship isn’t always easy—how do you stay inspired and keep moving forward? I have several networking groups that keep me sane. One is WIPA (Wedding Industry Professionals Association), and I also have a little cohort of exceptional event planners that are always available for advice.

What’s next for you and your business? Any exciting projects or goals on the horizon? I'm looking forward to working in Cape Cod again this fall!

How do you balance the demands of entrepreneurship with your personal life? I have strict boundaries for when I take meetings and calls. I typically stop working at 3 PM, when my sons get home from school. I try to only have two evening meetings per month and keep my weekends open for family time and rest.

How do you define success, and has that definition changed since you started your business? Happiness and a great personal life are how I define success. These things are far more important than my bank account.

What’s one habit or daily practice that has helped you grow as a business owner? Exercise. If I don’t get a walk or a workout in, I'm no good.

For those reading this, what’s the best way they can support you and your business? If you need an event planner, let me know!
