Meet Lucas Hutson

Meet Lucas Hutson —

The founder of The Aspiring Homeowner. Based in Nashville, Lucas is blending creativity, resourcefulness, and heart to make homeownership more accessible for those who need it most. What started as a spark of inspiration has grown into a mission-driven platform that supports not only future homeowners but also the real estate professionals who help guide them. We had the chance to sit down with Lucas and hear more about his journey, the inspiration behind his business, and what’s next for this dynamic entrepreneur.

Let’s start with something foundational—how do you define the word “entrepreneur”?

To me, an entrepreneur is someone fueled by creativity and the belief in what’s possible.

Can you tell us a little about your background? What led you to take the leap into entrepreneurship?

I've always been an out-of-the-box thinker and someone good at putting pieces together. Once I started working in real estate and learning how deals are built, I just saw all of these possibilities and connections in front of me. From then on, there was nothing else I could be.

What sparked the idea for The Aspiring Homeowner? Was there a defining moment that made you say, “Let’s do this”?

This has been a spark I have been nurturing for some time. It was born from seeing a need in the real estate industry—not just for those who want to buy a home, but also for agents and lenders. There are tons and tons of people out there who want to buy a home and either can’t, don’t know how, or a combination of both. Our goal is to find those people, help them get to where they want to go, and then hand them off to a capable professional who can help them find their dream home.

What problem does your business solve, and what makes your approach stand out in your industry?

We make home buying more accessible to new buyers. Providing them with information and guidance that fits their needs and goals makes the process of buying their own home less daunting.

What’s been your biggest challenge as a business owner, and how did you work through it?

My biggest challenge, up to now, has been opening a brokerage during a global pandemic. It felt great to accomplish that, and I learned a lot of invaluable lessons. But my biggest challenge is certainly still in front of me. Looking at The Aspiring Homeowner, I see endless possibilities and connections. There are so many ways we can grow, explore, and expand. We want to be a force for good in the world and the communities where our people call home—and we want to do it in the biggest way we can.

Share a standout moment or milestone in your journey that made you think, “Wow, we’re really doing this.”

This moment kind of feels like it, honestly. I’ve spent a long time playing with this idea, and it’s finally time to put it out into the world. Building this business and figuring out all the ways it works has been a process. I’m excited to get underway.

What’s one piece of advice that’s stuck with you throughout your entrepreneurial journey?

The best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago. The second-best time is right now.
Don’t wait for the stars to align to start a new adventure. Everything will not be perfect or figured out on Day 1—so get that seed in some soil.

Entrepreneurship isn’t always sunshine and smooth sailing—how do you stay inspired when things get tough?

When things get stressful and I begin to feel overwhelmed about a situation, I just sing to myself, “Just keep swimming.” There are hard moments in business and life, but they don’t last forever.
The best you can do is the best you can do (and that doesn’t look the same every day). But as long as you do your best and keep swimming, you will come out on the other side.

What’s next for The Aspiring Homeowner? Any exciting projects you can share?

Yes! Currently, we are planning our first Live Comedy Event. This will actually kick off a recurring event series. Date and time TBD.
We do plan on live streaming the event for those who can’t attend.

How do you balance entrepreneurship and personal life?

It’s really about having awareness and being able to prioritize. One of the downsides of being an entrepreneur is that you don’t get to clock out. But set a standard for your time and protect it.
If there is something that needs to be done but can wait until Monday, enjoy your weekend. If you get a text at 8 PM from a frantic seller because they can’t find any spare keys and closing is next week, grab another handful of popcorn and hit Next Episode.

How do you define success—and has that definition changed over time?

Success means living a fulfilling life, and that looks different to everybody. For me, success means getting to spend time doing the things I love to do and using my talents and ideas to make people’s lives better.

What’s one habit or daily practice that’s helped you grow as a business owner?

Read! Fiction, non-fiction, comics, articles—anything!
Make a point to read for at least 15–20 minutes every single day. Your brain needs to work out as well.

What’s the best way readers can support you and your mission?

By reaching out to me if they want to be able to buy a home and don’t know how. We would love to talk and get you moving down the road to homeownership.

Any fun final thought to leave us with?

Homeowner has the word MEOW in it. 😸
