Meet Davis Stewart of HQ Insurance
We’re excited to introduce you to Davis Stewart, the personable and passionate force behind HQ Insurance. Based in Nashville, Davis is on a mission to close the trust gap in the insurance industry by prioritizing relationships over transactions. From learning the ropes from his grandfather to building a business rooted in genuine connection, Davis is redefining what it means to serve clients in the world of insurance. We had the chance to learn more about his story, his approach to entrepreneurship, and the values that keep him going.
Let’s start with something foundational—how do you define the word “entrepreneur”?
To me, an entrepreneur is someone who’s willing to bet on themselves. They care deeply about an idea and work every day to make it real and make it happen. It’s not about being flashy—it’s about sticking with it, solving problems, and not giving up, even when things get tough.
Tell us a bit about yourself! What led you to take the leap into entrepreneurship?
I grew up in a small town just outside of Nashville and went on to study at the University of Tennessee. I always knew I wanted to work for myself, but I wasn’t sure exactly what that would look like or how to get there. The idea of being stuck in a 9-5 never appealed to me—I wanted the freedom to set my own schedule and know that the effort I put in would directly impact my success. This mindset eventually led me to a career in insurance.
What sparked the idea for your business, and what was the defining moment that pushed you to start?
The turning point that led me to a career in insurance was the invaluable knowledge I gained from my grandfather, who’s been in the industry for over 20 years. Having built a successful career for himself, he saw the potential in the field and encouraged me to follow a similar path.
What problem does your business solve, and what makes your approach unique in your industry?
We solve the trust gap in insurance by focusing on relationships, not transactions. I work side by side with my clients, always putting their best interests first. It’s about clear guidance, honest advice, and being a partner they can rely on—no matter what life throws at them.
What has been your biggest challenge as a business owner, and how did you navigate through it?
Some of the biggest challenges in the industry are competing with other companies, keeping up with all the changing regulations, and earning trust in an often-confusing industry. But these challenges push us to focus on what matters—offering personal service, staying flexible, and making sure our clients always feel heard and taken care of.
What’s one piece of advice that has stuck with you throughout your entrepreneurial journey, and why has it been so impactful?
One piece of advice that’s stuck with me is: “Focus on building relationships, not just transactions.” In insurance, success comes from earning trust and being there for clients, not just selling policies. This has been so impactful because it reminds me that long-term success is about genuine connections and always putting people’s needs first.
Entrepreneurship isn’t always easy—how do you stay inspired and keep moving forward?
Entrepreneurship definitely has its ups and downs, but what keeps me inspired is knowing that the work I do makes a real impact on people’s lives. Helping clients feel protected and supported gives me a sense of purpose. I also stay motivated by setting clear goals, celebrating small wins, and surrounding myself with people who challenge and encourage me. On tough days, I remind myself why I started, and how much progress I’ve made since that point—even when it’s slow, it is still progress.
How do you define success, and has that definition changed since you started your business?
Success for me means building real relationships, having clients trust me enough to refer their friends and family, and creating a business that aligns with my values and lifestyle. It’s not just about how much I achieve, but how I achieve it and making sure I’m proud of the work I do every step of the way.
What’s one habit or daily practice that has helped you grow as a business owner?
Consistency is key for me. Whether it’s hitting a specific call count, setting meetings, or sticking to a solid morning routine, staying consistent has made a huge difference. Goal setting has also been a major habit that’s helped me grow as an entrepreneur, keeping me focused and moving forward.
For those reading this, what’s the best way they can support you and your business?
The best way to support me and my business is simply by trusting me with your insurance needs. Whether you’re looking for advice, a second opinion, or a full policy review, I’m here to help. Referrals are also incredibly valuable—if you know someone who could benefit from a personalized, trustworthy approach to insurance, sending them my way would mean the world.
